Health

Health continues to rank as the most important problem that Ugandans want the government to address. Rural access to health care remains a challenge in Uganda due to urban bias, social determinants of health, and transportation-related barriers. The health system lacks equity, leaving disproportionately less health center access for the poorest residents with the highest health care needs. Lack of health care equity has become of increasing concern as the country enters a period of simultaneous high infectious and non-communicable disease burdens, the second of which requires a robust primary care network due to a long continuum of care.

In an effort to supplement the government policy of universal access to health, we focus on improving the access to, and the quality of, preventive and promotion of health and nutrition services among poor and vulnerable populations with Health Information, Education and Promotion. In line with the country’s National Health Policy, Health Sector Development Plan, the national Adolescence Sexual Reproductive Health policy and the National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan. Through our community health projects, we reach out to the underserved and vulnerable communities as we capitalize on Uganda government’s notable progress toward achieving some of the health-related targets set out in the Millennium Development Goals and their successor, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
